The Brennen Building is a two-story masonry structure erected by carriage maker and businessman, Michael Brennen, around 1870. It was the home of the Capitol Café from 1911 to 2002. Today it is owned by First Citizens Bank, with Bourbon operating out of the building’s storefront.
The award winning revitalization work included Specialty Woodworks’ attention to detail in replicating the various components of the building front and storefront.
To recapture the building's original design, we replicated window eyebrows with corbels, restored the original cast-iron balcony added around 1919, and rebuilt the storefront. The entrance doors are crafted from stave core with sapele veneers. The storefront and window casings are reconstructed with sapele for durability against weather, decay and pests.
A lot goes into what we do and how we do it. Meet the team that makes it happen.
